status report
Apr. 12th, 2004 08:34 amThis is the last week of my current contract. The job has been alternately boring, frustrating, and fun, so, about average. The worst part is having a real commute again, not just from work to home but from work to every music venue I know.
When I signed up and got an end date, I started planning a trip to southern California The idea was, do the job, go travel and play some music, come back and look for the next job.
So that's coming up. Last time I was in LA I played at an open mike at Psychobabble Coffeehouse, and the host asked me to come play a half-hour set next time I was in town. So that's what I'll be doing on the 25th. My friend Dave Ray, who moved to LA this winter, will be joining me. I'm really looking forward to that--it's been ages since we've played together.
The cafe in Orange County where I was hoping to book a show didn't answer my email, and the combination of "busy with work" and "neurotic about the phone" distracted me from following up, or from trying to book shows in San Diego or SLO.
Meanwhile, my employer has offered a renewal through the end of June. I expect to accept the offer today. I'll cut the LA trip a little shorter than I was planning, but I'll still have time to eat at Real Food Daily, where all my LA LiveJournal friends seem to be going lately.

Date: 2004-04-12 05:13 pm (UTC)Er, anyway, by all means, come see us, it should be fun, if you like that sort of thing (http://www.drowning.org/tracks.shtml). Probably mostly on the acoustic side, since that's what went over so well last time I was there.
Be sure to introduce yourself as "[your real name]" so (assuming your real name is not morganita) I can stare blankly until you say "oh wait, you know me as 'morganita'" and then we can make awkward attempts at conversation, like "so....... posted anything lately?"
No, seriously, can I borrow that book?
I mean, no, seriously, it'll be fun.
I can't figure out how to stop this post.

Date: 2004-04-12 06:37 pm (UTC)It will be fun, yes. And I'll bring the book. Oddly enough, it does not go well with my "Big Book of Racial Slurs". Save that one for when you tour through the south. Toodle-pip!
