the two towers
So I finally got around to The Two Towers--I was really looking forward to it, and then it came out, and suddenly I wasn't interested at all. I had to drag myself to the theater.
Peter Jackson's adaptation continues to be astonishing in both the scope of its ambitions and the degree to which it fulfills them, and yet I find the films themselves only mostly successful. I wouldn't be surprised, though, if when the dust clears, some version of the full trilogy is the greatest film epic ever.
With that said, the one moment at the theater that filled me with almost terminal glee was the trailer for X-Men 2.
