I just finished Murray Bail's wonderful book Eucalyptus, a courtship told in stories and landscapes. The New York Times review is right.

Democrats and national security

Like I've been saying: Bush is doing nothing to improve, and much to harm, our nation's security, and the 2004 Democratic nominee should call him on it. Apparently the candidates have caught on; it was a big issue at a candidate forum in Iowa today.

Also, I don't know how seriously to take them, but I'm pleased by the existence of Democrats for National Security.
