Jul. 2nd, 2003 11:31 pmWell, I saw The Eye. Was it scary? Well, let's just say I won't be getting corneal transplants anytime soon.
Okay, it wasn't that scary. I think it would've been a better movie if it had made less use of squealing-brakes sound effects to let us know when we should be freaking out. There's a scene early in the film where the protagonist is riding in a car and sees a man in a suit standing in the middle of the freeway. With no sound effects, this would've been an eerie, intriguing moment. But the noise overwhelmed what was going on, like the filmmakers shouting "Pay attention! This is WEIRD!"
But I still enjoyed it. It deserved more than two weeks at the independentest theater in San Jose and late-night screenings at the Milpitas Cinema Saver 10 ($3.50 admission and a lobby popcorn smell so unconvincing I suspect it drives people away from the concession stand). Oh well.
