Via Creative Commons ([livejournal.com profile] creativecommons): A list of 2002's best-selling classics (how did The Red Tent get on this list?), and when they'll enter the public domain. It almost makes me cry that The Great Gatsby won't be available for translation, adaptation, and reinterpretation for another 17 years.

This is cool: The new CD by Jim's Big Ego will be released with a Creative Commons license. This license, like the one I use, says that you can copy their music, cover it, alter it, etc., as long as you're not making money off it and you give credit where it's due. (Basically, in my opinion, it explicitly states the terms any reasonable songwriter would want.) Theirs also says that your derivative works (covers, remixes, ...) have to be just as sharable as the original.
