I saw Ocean's 12 yesterday because I found myself with 3 hours to kill while Best Buy unsuccessfully rewired my speakers. It was all right, but I don't think I could recommend it. I agree with Kenneth Turan's assessment in that it seems like all of the characters had a great time but the audience is left on the outside looking in.
I also agree with you in that they tried to cram too many characters into the film and wound up not really getting much out of anyone's performance. I thought the film was pretty clever, but I felt horribly underwhelmed by the twist. It seemed uninspired and cobbled together in a last ditch attempt at tidying everything up. In fact, I dare say I felt gypped by the ending.
