Over the last year I've listened to a whole lot of my tapes from high school and college, and set aside some of them to remind me I'd like to get them on CD. I'm typing these in now mostly for my own records (since I don't want to move them to Minneapolis just so I can replace them), but who knows, maybe you're curious about what I listened to last century.

The Art of Noise, In Visible Silence.
Carla Bley, The Very Big Carla Bley Band.
David Bowie, Never Let Me Down.
Brave Combo, A Night on Earth.
Bill Bruford, One of a Kind.
Peter Case, The Man with the Blue Postmodern Fragmented Neo-traditionalist Guitar.
Chicago, IX/Greatest Hits.
Phil Collins, Face Value.
Thomas Dolby, "Dissidents" (single).
Earth, Wind & Fire, All 'N All.
The Electric Light Orchestra, Out of the Blue.
Duke Ellington, Three Suites.
Bill Evans, New Conversations.
Robert Fripp, Exposure.
Genesis, A Trick of the Tail.
George Gershwin, Concerto in F.
George Gershwin, An American in Paris.
George Gershwin, Rhapsody in Blue.
Daryl Hall, Three Hearts in the Happy Ending Machine.
Joe Jackson, Look Sharp!
Joe Jackson, Tucker: The Man and His Dream.
Joe Jackson, Mike's Murder.
Rickie Lee Jones, s/t.
Rickie Lee Jones, Naked Songs.
Roger Kellaway, Nostalgia Suite.
King Crimson, Discipline.
Bobby McFerrin, The Voice.
Men Without Hats, Rhythm of Youth.
The Meters, Look-ka Py Py.
Thelonious Monk, The Composer.
William Orbit, Strange Cargo III.
The Alan Parsons Project, I, Robot.
Pet Shop Boys, Please.
Pet Shop Boys, Actually.
Pink Floyd, Wish You Were Here.
Public Enemy, "Fight the Power" (single).
Preston Reed, Blue Vertigo.
Queen, A Night at the Opera.
Steely Dan, Greatest Hits (for "Here at the Western World").
Bruce Springsteen, "Secret Garden" (single).
Strength in Numbers, The Telluride Sessions.
Talking Heads, '77.
Talking Heads, More Songs about Buildings and Food.
Mel Torme and the Marty Paich Dek-Tette, Reunion.
Utopia, Swing to the Right.
John Waite, No Brakes.
Wang Chung, Mosaic.
The Wallets, Take It.
The Wallets, Body Talk.
Roger Waters, Radio K.A.O.S.
John Zorn, Naked City.

A compilation tape with a bunch of Muppets songs on it.
A compilation tape including "Fool in the Rain", Robert Plant's "In the Mood", "Copacabana", and three Kansas songs.
A compilation tape with Bryan Adams's "Victim of Love", Golden Earring's "Twilight Zone", "Juke Box Hero", "Since You've Been Gone", and a lot of Chicago.
Various Artists, That's the Way I Feel Now: A Tribute to Thelonious Monk.

Looking back, a lot of these are pure nostalgia picks. I remember Radio K.A.O.S. fondly, but I doubt I'd ever listen to it. On the other hand, I'd love to have the Wallets back in my life, and I'm not sure how I've gotten by without Naked City.

Don't get rid of some of those tapes expecting to pick them up on CD. The Wallets are very difficult to find, even in MN, and of course the Muppets (if this is the tape I helped to make with borrowed records) and Sesame St., it's hard to find a lot of those songs in any format other than LP. I've collected what I can on CD, but there are a lot of songs I can't find, like Cookie Disco.

I do, however, have those Rickie Lee Jones (Naked Songs, not s/t), Queen, and Utopia albums, and some of the Gershwin.

It turns out Twin/Tone still exists and will burn CDs for you; I just ordered Body Talk and 17 Songs (which contains all of Take It).

On the other hand, That's the Way I Feel Now on CD sells for $120 or higher on Amazon.
