Roger Ebert has a review up of Stone Reader, previously mentioned in these pages and still one of my favorite films this year. It's currently playing in Cambridge and elsewhere, and continuing to make its way slowly around the country.

July 18 on Vashon Island and Sept 12 in Port Townshend?
WTFF?

What did this guy do to piss off the distributors so badly?

Well... he made a movie... about books. Terminator 3 it's not.

yeah, but if it's winning awards at Sundance, seems like that should be enough to get it into the Landmark chain, at least.

Ah, no, it won awards at Slamdance, the rebel festival down the street from Sundance. Given that it's a documentary about books, it's getting amazingly good distribution--Landmark is showing it in Cambridge, for example. I've seen plenty of other great independent films that never went anywhere but festivals.
