(no subject)

Bob Hope's death doesn't sadden me the way Katharine Hepburn's did; his best work is more distant than hers was, and his off-screen life doesn't inspire me the way hers does. But I do miss his best work. I'm not gonna write an obituary, but this post has a couple of my favorite lines from his movies.

I think he'd appreciate the fact that his New York Times obituary was written by a dead man.

the best thing is that when confronted with the fact that canby died, what, 2 years ago, the NYT said something like "we're under no obligation to insure that the authors of our obituaries die after the subjects."

and then they added "plus, not much really happened in bob hope's life the last few years anyway."
