Well, I voted. I voted touchscreen. Strangers on the street know this about me now. Every year I vote, and every year I get a sticker that says I VOTED, and every year I wear it, because hey, I'm proud to be in a country that mostly functions as a democracy. This year the stickers say I VOTED TOUCHSCREEN, and I'm not really proud of the touchscreen part, because I think the rush to new technology is ill-considered, and anyway, who cares what mechanism I used to vote? I don't remember I VOTED PUNCHCARD stickers. I hope Diebold paid for the stickers. But I wore it anyway. I guess I can take it off now.

(Update: Diebold didn't make the machines in Santa Clara County. I don't know who did.)

Did you take a Wi-Fi laptop with you and diddle the tallies, after you voted?

Over at the infojunkies community, someone posted a link to the folks who have made a CD showing the apparently idiot-simple steps for getting in the back doors of those machines, and are sending them to congress members along with the plea to insist on an accountable vote tallying system.
which, sigh, the Diebold machines are apparently and vociferously not.

a wee bit mind boggling, and a touch more surreal than the Chicago machine politics of 100 years or so ago putting ketchup on the ballots to feed 'em to Monica the goat. Only this isn't from the funny pages! oh.

Don't have a laptop, but the ballot measure I favored passed, so I guess it all worked out. Just as long as the vote tampering is done by people who agree with me I'm happy.

Mmm, ballots with ketchup.

I VOTED PLASTIC MEMBRANE WITH LED's AND PAPER OVERLAYS.

The machine was guarded by a sullen college-age kid reading a trashy novel. The senior citizen voter registration check folks sure were surly this year.

The ones at my polling place didn't seem surly so much as confused by the presence of someone who wanted to vote. Guess it was kind of a slow day.
