"Cornell University physicists reported last week that they had used a laser beam to pluck the strings of an invisibly tiny silicon guitar just 10 millionths of a meter long." The best part, which you can't make out on the web, is that the electron microscope display identifies the guitar as a Flying V.

High art, low art, City Opera and Ground Zero.

"The new album is aptly titled, as the timing is good for R.E.M.--with young listeners apparently downloading the music they want and saving their money for video games or other diversions, veteran acts are topping the charts, because they appeal to older audiences that still buy CD's." I feel roughly this sad when I hear Talking Heads on a classic rock station.

Kelefa Sanneh's Playlist calls Dolorean the legacy of Elliott Smith.

I will admit that I ordered the DVD that goes with the greatest hits CD. And I will likely order the CD as well. Yes, I'm old, too...

I don't know, but here's what an Amazon.com excerpt from page 88 of The New York Times Manual of Style and Usage has to say: ". . . distinction in a normally adult field (scientific discovery, for example, or musical competi- tion) might well merit Ms., Miss or Mr. But in a schoolroom setting, Robin would seem more natural. . . . coined or fanciful stage name to avoid appearing overliteral. Meat Loaf and Little Richard, for example, keep their full names, without title, in all references. Foreign equivalents of the courtesy titles-M., . . ."

First off, I have seen the Times refer to "Mr Loaf" in particular. Perhaps this lead to a change in the style guide.

Second off, I'm distressed that they don't tell us what song they played on the Flying Vlette. I want to see a little rotating arm so they can do Who tunes ..
