Our old friend Julian Dibbell was on Talk of the Nation. An addiction to Ultima Online led him to this proposition, from his blog:
On April 15, 2004, I will truthfully report to the IRS that my primary source of income is the sale of imaginary goods -- and that I earn more from it, on a monthly basis, than I have ever earned as a professional writer.Sadly there appears to be no archive of the blog, so I can't find out why he just made a cross-country drive from (at least) Nebraska to southern California.
