Our old friend Julian Dibbell was on Talk of the Nation. An addiction to Ultima Online led him to this proposition, from his blog:
On April 15, 2004, I will truthfully report to the IRS that my primary source of income is the sale of imaginary goods -- and that I earn more from it, on a monthly basis, than I have ever earned as a professional writer.
Sadly there appears to be no archive of the blog, so I can't find out why he just made a cross-country drive from (at least) Nebraska to southern California.

Pretty freaky.

If only we could work out a profit system like that for Waterpoint. I could sell real estate!

Beth saw him at some internet or gaming conference in Europe a few months ago -- he recognized her and passed on a hello and his URL to me, but I haven't gone to look yet. It sounds to me like he's basically invented a multi-player game ebay, which of course should make him tons of money. I think his wife is a professor so he's locked into some horrible midwestern town, or was.

You know, they air TOTN at 9pm here. What's the point of that? How am I supposed to call in and hit on Neil Conan if they air it at 9pm PST?

Hm. Maybe that's why they air it so late. Because they don't want hot, young chicks clogging up the phone lines trying to talk to Neil.

Anyway. Carry on.

Yes, as I understand it they had a big "stammer, giggle, and suddenly hang up" problem during the original time slot.
