A couple of songs I enjoyed yesterday that you probably won't have heard about elsewhere:

This winter in Minneapolis I met a talented, and really nice, songwriter named Joe Letness. His band, the RadioSpares, offers "unabashedly fast-paced, catchy, power-pop for music lovers with a short attention span," which I know includes some of you. There's a page of MP3s on the web site, including Normal. "We've got our jobs, we've got the mall, you bought me this terrific sweater."

In a quieter part of the world, my friend Jon Weston recently recorded a Mr. Rogers cover: Please Don't Think It's Funny. "There are lots and lots of people who sometimes feel this way."

Yesterday on KQED I heard a high school student describe the mental hospital patients she sometimes spends time with for her psychology class as "so outgoing it's like almost touching," and seriously, guys, if I ever make a second CD, I don't think I could come up with a better title than "Almost Touching." Remind me.

I agree. I also like "Messed Up Girls", which may say something sad about me.

Your line yesterday about pretending we're robots made me laugh, by the way. I was going to say something about grad school but I got hung up on making up a memory. But basically I think you're right--if you're not absolutely sure you want to go to grad school, then it's not your time.

My sister Kate spent two years in the Peace Corps after college, came back to work for a while at various jobs, and will be going to grad school at the U of M this fall. I'm not really suggesting you should join the Peace Corps, I just like mentioning my sisters sometimes because they're cool.

Huh. Well, if you have any questions or anything, I can put you in touch with Kate.
