I think it's probably good for the company, too, by which I mainly mean the guys who founded it. They've been working to realize a vision, and if Microsoft leadership gets it--and they seem to--they'll make it a lot easier to get there.
I'm not all that stressed about it, but I am curious to see what happens.
They don't always lay everyone off, do they? They didn't with Hotmail, just made the whole place miserable, AFAIK.
Well, it is dark up here, but it's a nice town and you'd like it in Seattle. I keep meaning to take pictures of all the old 60ies era neon signs for you and Ken to see... but I've been swamped since getting here. No, with work, not water.
They're not laying everyone off--as I understand it, they're going to offer some people relocation offers, and let others go. (Actually, much of PlaceWare will stay in Mountain View, but engineering will move to Seattle--even though Microsoft already has a Mountain View campus, and even though remote collaboration would seem like a gimme.)
But I'm not sure I'll get an offer, and even if I do, I'm not thrilled by Seattle. I've been thinking for ages about moving south, and have only recently started feeling settled where I am; moving north seems counterproductive.
So I'm not sure I need to find a new job, but I definitely want to explore my options.
