Posting from the PDA again. The relatives I'm staying with have cable net, but their computer is very slow... but they have a neighbor with an unsecured wireless net, so I'm hitchhiking on that.

Played a just-okay set tonight to a room full of people... and then walked across the sidewalk to another open mike, where I played, I think, a very good set for the eight people who stayed until the end. Such is life.

The Orange County Museum of Art has some great pieces in its permanent collection, but the one that got my attention this time was a visiting Mondrian. In art textbooks we learn to think of Mondrian's paintings as perfect geometries of pure bold color, but decades down the line what they are is greying slightly and latticed with tiny cracks. Because that's what time does to perfection.

Real Food Daily:
  • I accidentally parked about six blocks from the restaurant, which I think is the farthest I've ever walked in Los Angeles.
  • I got the roseberry iced tea, which was great, and [livejournal.com profile] europopkid, I saw what I assume was a regular iced tea pitcher, and it looked fine. Are you sure you didn't order the iced sludge?
  • Aside from that, the food was very good, but too expensive for me to eat there alone again.
  • There sure are a lot of beautiful people working as waitstaff in LA.

On the way out of Kill Bill a guy gave someone a thumbs up, and, when I looked at him quizzically, explained that he loved my shirt. What he really meant, though, was that he loves the band that's on it.

Now I'm in a cafe in Little Armenia, on, I guess, the anniversary of the 1915 genocide, which is a little sobering, but there's jazz on the radio and apparently Canada has just announced its recognition of the genocide, so things aren't all bad.

Posting from the Animators show, just because I can. Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] marm0t! Thanks, Animators! And thanks, operator of an unsecured wireless net somewhere in the vicinity of the Hotel Cafe known only as "default"!

BTW, due to interactions between this web browser and my usual webmail service, I can currently read email while I'm out and about but I can't send or reply to it. I'll catch up at some point, really.

The guy playing now is good, but I wish he'd stop so the Animators could start.
