Real Food Daily:
  • I accidentally parked about six blocks from the restaurant, which I think is the farthest I've ever walked in Los Angeles.
  • I got the roseberry iced tea, which was great, and [livejournal.com profile] europopkid, I saw what I assume was a regular iced tea pitcher, and it looked fine. Are you sure you didn't order the iced sludge?
  • Aside from that, the food was very good, but too expensive for me to eat there alone again.
  • There sure are a lot of beautiful people working as waitstaff in LA.

On the way out of Kill Bill a guy gave someone a thumbs up, and, when I looked at him quizzically, explained that he loved my shirt. What he really meant, though, was that he loves the band that's on it.

Now I'm in a cafe in Little Armenia, on, I guess, the anniversary of the 1915 genocide, which is a little sobering, but there's jazz on the radio and apparently Canada has just announced its recognition of the genocide, so things aren't all bad.

I *almost* went there for lunch today. Almost. But the Apple Pan won me over with their Hickory Burgers. Weird weather today. Glad you liked Real Food Daily though.

I, on the otherhand, love your shirt. what band was it?

Oddly enough, I also had a Hickory Burger today for lunch.

glad you enjoyed it!

BTW I was delighted to receive your e-mail... circumstances mean I'm not at my desk much, so an answer may take a while.

i can't remember but i think i mentioned real food daily being a tad pricey. and i swear their iced tea tasted funky!

yeah, i was away from the office on the commemoration of the genocide (most armenian businesses close to observe it (and i've heard that those who don't get torched. or egged. or something), but we, being way out in the city of industry, usually open for a half-day. the mafia makes up their own rules, apparently.

did you know: los angeles has the largest concentration of armenians outside of armenia? usually, those fresh from the homeland settle into little armenia, which is considered the ghetto by those who've made something of themselves and moved away to places like glendale.

next time you're back in town i'd love to explore that area with you. maybe take in an armenian pastry or two.

I'm reading Jeffrey Eugenides's novel Middlesex, and I just finished the part where the Turks razed Smyrna (which was Greek, but had a large Armenian population) in 1922. I was horrified, and then checked the date and realized that wasn't even the big genocide.

I'm a little wary of Glendale now.

Mmm, pastry.
