Around Christmas, remember, I drove to Minnesota to visit family and explore the local music scene. While I was there I took my poor winter-innocent Corolla to the Amoco station near my parents' house for scheduled maintenance. (It was fine.)

Last month the Amoco station sent me the standard "Based on our records, it's time to bring your car back in--and here's a tiny discount!" postcard. Not that useful, since I'm some 2000 miles away.

... Except that I'm about to drive back up. By the time I get there and make some side trips, I may actually get a chance to use the coupon. I like the idea of being a regular customer who lives half a country away.

Okay, Tin Cat--the new five-piece kind of rock band I'm in with Meredith Edgar and some of the DTs--has a web site now. More accurately a web page, but you know what they say about the journey of a thousand miles. The obvious domain name was taken by a squatter, so the site is here instead: tincatland.com.

This web site has even less information on it than the last one, but in place of information it has audio. Rough, muddled audio that was the best our friend Dan could coax out of two microphones in the middle of the living room, recording songs we were still learning. It's like a home bootleg. Life on the edge.
