So yeah, the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation announced the two finalists for the WTC site design: THINK Design and Studio Daniel Libeskind. Both feature new world's-tallests, which strike me as a bad idea aesthetically, pragmatically, and ideologically. THINK's proposal also includes the world's largest covered plaza, "sustainable design" features, and its tallest buildings are kind of beautiful. Libeskind's tower just looks like a knife somebody left out.
Meanwhile, the developer who holds the lease to the property "charged yesterday that rebuilding officials were ignoring his right to rebuild the site as he sees fit." The current proposals don't provide enough office space, he says, and "rebuilding towers more than 1,000 feet high is not only unsafe but is also economic folly."
