I bought a microwave. Thanks for the advice. A "mid-size", it sort of fits on my kitchen counter, although the door swings out over the stove and into any innocently bystanding saucepans, or, if I put it on the other counter, the power cord stretches across the sink. This requires further thought.

Also, how do I know if my dishes are microwave-safe? Aside from the experimental method.

I'm more curious to know why you think your dishes are innocent.

Mostly I assume glass/ceramic dishes are microwave safe. This may be unwise.

By the way, I just heard Kris Delmhorst on the local NPR station.

Huh, she's on the west coast?

I think I might take it back--this counter situation is looking untenable.

Well, her songs are, at any rate.

Time for a counter revolution.

do you have room for an under cupbord mountable microwave? can you put it on top of your fridge?

I might have room under a cupboard, but, you know how we all have our hangups? No wait, I don't have to go into that--these cupboards just aren't deep enough. Hadn't thought of the fridge, but no, no room there either.

I didn't take this apartment for the kitchen--as I'm now reminded.

I could move a piece of furniture over next to the counter, but the effort involved in installing a time-saving device is starting to feel silly.
