If you're the sort who'd care, you probably already know that Bush's supreme court nominee believes Roe v. Wade should be overruled, but you might have missed Hamdan v. Rumsfeld, in which he and two other federal judges ruled that the President has the authority to set up whatever justice system he deems necessary to fight terrorism. We're gonna miss Justice O'Connor.

For an all-too-brief period, I was thinking, "well, this guy doesn't seem insane or radical, is it possible that Bush actually picked a sensible candidate?"

Unfortunately, it might have been good enough for him to pick someone that the news services would say is a nice moderate choice that everyone likes.

I couldn't believe all the "maybe he'll pick a moderate to make up for all the crazy" talk before the announcement. Have we learned nothing about this administration?

Oh, I didn't hear any of that beforehand.

I do kind of like Will Shetterly's chagrined response after learning his prediction of a rich, radically conservative black woman was wrong: "It's kind of charming that a Republican can nominate a white guy and surprise everyone."
