Tonight's theme is "literary fiction", with one exception. These are from the "I'm not going to finish these" purge, so I can't really vouch for them, but most of them are supposed to be good.

  • Laurence Stern, Tristram Shandy. "The most protean and playful English novel of the eighteenth century."
  • Lorrie Moore, Birds of America (short stories) and Anagrams (novel).
  • Don DeLillo, Underworld. Remember the Cold War?
  • Russell Banks, Cloudsplitter. Remember John Brown?
  • Dave Eggers, You Shall Know Our Velocity! Remember Dave Eggers?
  • Absolute Disaster: Fiction from Los Angeles and California Shorts. Stories.
  • Summer by Felicity Porter. Promotional oddity, "transcriptions" of the tapes two fictional characters sent each other after the first season of their TV series.

I also have a DVD player if anyone wants it. Pay me for shipping. It's a Philips DVD642, newish. Sean likes it, and so do I--it's just not much use without a TV.

Let me ask Lars about the DVD player. I am definitely interested.

I am also interested in the Dave Eggers and Russell Banks.

You should definitely keep the DeLillo--it's a masterpiece.

Eggers, Banks, and "Porter" are yours. Re Underworld, I hope to come back to it someday, but I can afford not to carry it around with me until that day comes.

I've just discovered I haven't quite come to terms emotionally with giving away the DVD player, so it may be a few days before it gets shipped.

I was going to add this:

I already have a DVD player, and this would be a second one. I would rather let someone have it who doesn't have one already and can't afford to get one.

But thank you for the books! :)

Oh, and the Felicity, too, if no one else wants it since it's one of my favorite shows ever.

Ok, yes. Should $20 or so cover shipping? Should I paypal it?

I'll take the Banks, Moore, and Absolute Disaster. I can put them on my shelf.

Feel free to poach them for other people, since I haven't started Middlesex yet ..
