Another old flame that I've lost touch with is the Stanford Theatre, but it sent me its latest schedule, and I was overcome. This month and next there are five Garbo films, plus the usual random selection of silents and old favorites. There are some I want to see, and some I want to see again; help me decide which of these to go to: Wait Until Dark, Baby Face, All About Eve/Citizen Kane, Ninotchka/Queen Christina, Midnight/To Be Or Not To Be. (The best way to convince me is to say you'll come along.) The program ends at the head of October with Some Like It Hot, one of my all-time favorites; the timing is good.

Sadly, I already missed The Philadelphia Story, but tonight I went to Beat the Devil. It turns out I'd already seen it, probably, although I'd forgotten almost all of it. That's never a good sign, and I thought about leaving, but I stuck around, and you know, it's very funny. I should try to remember it this time.

The Reluctant Debutante is a ppersonal favorite of Dave Packard. Once when he was introducing it he said something on the order of "It's my theater and I'll keep showing it until people come." Well, it is indeed a good one -- I hesitate to say "lost classic", but ..

Let's go.

It's okay. It's not one I need to see again.

If it the 1939 Midnight (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0031647/) that is a fun film and the 1942 To Be Or Not To Be (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0035446/) which is great and it is a Lubitsch film.

And now that I look at the calendar are you open to suggestions outside of what you have listed?

Nosferatu because Dennis James is great every time [livejournal.com profile] twistjusty and I get to see him in Seattle.
Girl Shy is also very good.
I really liked The Merry Widow and pretty much all the movies I have seen with Maurice Chevalier are fun. Both are Ernst Lubitsch movies as well so hard to go wrong.
And since you may see Some Like It Hot which is worth seeing in a theater even if you have seen it before, It Should Happen To You is good as well.

I've seen Nosferatu and Dennis James, and don't like Chevalier at all. I might make it to Girl Shy.

And yeah, Some Like It Hot is one of my favorites; I've seen it in multiple theaters, and I'm definitely going this time. I'll do the double feature if time allows.
