Well, I don't know about you, but I was deeply in love right from the opening credits.

Christ, and I won't even have a chance to see this one for another month. I'd better filter out Neil's journal until then (if only for the comments).

Yeah, I don't get why it's in such narrow release. But I guess I don't have much commercial instinct.

does it have any wizards, vampires, space or dinosaurs in it?

NO SPOILERS.

I actually went into it knowing only that it was by Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean, and I think that was a good way to see it.

Mosstly what it has in it is art direction.

I happened to see my Close Personal Friend Neil Gaiman recently, and he was talking up the movie. The thing it doesn't have is budget: The whole thing was on something like two million pounds. so of COURSE nobody is going to spend money promoting it, no matter how good it is.

But yeah, I intend to go. sometime. soon, I hope.

I haven't found it playing yet, but despite Ebert's review, or because of it, I like the sound of it and plan to go.

Tonight was Serenity.

Ebert's usually a sucker for visual spectacle--one of the reasons I read him, since I am too. So when he didn't like it, I was worried. But I went anyway. Story.

The theater was pretty empty, I assume because Mirrormask only got the geek leftovers from Serenity.

So, the only thing anyone's said about this movie is "Wow, it's Neil Gaiman!" (enormously overrated) and "Wow, it's Dave McKean!" (very talented but a visual style most interesting to goth chicks, I suspect).

Can someone summarize the plot of this thing? Or is that irrelevant to the geek culture cognoscenti?

Sure, lots of people have summarized the plot. Ebert (http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050929/REVIEWS/50928004), for example.

Thanks, I should have thought to do that earlier. I skimmed, saw characters called "Queen of Shadows" and that it was based in a circus, and that's enough for me to make a decision about whether or not I'll ever see this.
