Well, this seems like a good day for an update. A lot of things have been happening this year, but most of them have been too gradual for me to notice and post about--plus, I've been too busy.

Remember how I was moving to Minneapolis? Well, I went to Minneapolis, but I was in love with someone in California. So after a month, I came back, and then a while later she was in love with me too. Now I live with her, and that's pretty great.

I've been working for Mirapoint, helping them develop the webmail component of their email appliance. This is the same company I worked for last year before I supposedly left town.

I'm in at least three bands: Altamont Pass hasn't formally broken up, but has pretty much stopped playing shows. Next month I'll be backing up Avery Burke of Corpus Callosum for a couple of shows. I still play a solo set now and then, and have been thinking about starting a new band to explore my weirder musical interests.

I've been under a little stress lately trying to keep up with all my musical pursuits and still hold down a job, so I guess it's good news that today Mirapoint "let go" most of its contractors, including me. This may be the first job I haven't left voluntarily, but I'm not too upset about it.

No firm plans yet, but I expect I'll spend some time focusing on music--among other things, Vermillion Lies has a tour next month that I'd like to join them for. Then maybe I'll work on some personal software projects, or maybe I'll go find a job, or maybe something else will happen. Who can say?

Yay update!

Woo!

And good luck getting a job. Not, you know, too soon. But whatever you need.

Thanks. I think it'll go well--I've got good references, and some contacts I can follow up with when I'm ready to work again.

Welcome back, even if it's only for a quick visit—and I'm so glad to hear things are going so well! (And I include the ex-job in that; it sounds like you don't particularly need it at this moment & look forward to the time to work on other stuff.)

Yeah, I think it's a good time to get some breathing room.

Congratulations on the cohab; I hope it works out well. I was just thinking yesterday how my overall life got a lot better/happier when I did that same thing.

There are a lot of great things about it. Like, less food spoilage in the fridge! And, you know, support and affection and stuff. How's the new job?

Yeah, the economies of scale really kick in, especially in a 3-4 person household.

The new job pretty much kicks ass. I am having a great time. The people are fun to work with. It's also nice to work for a place that has fans, as opposed to just a lot of enemies.

Nice to hear from you again; I'd been wondering what you'd been up to! Everything sounds like it's going swimmingly - that's great news and I hope it continues!

I hope you will get back to fishing your friends to go to interesting acts again. Perhaps even acts you are in.

Your band schedule is woefully out of date.

I was talking to Alex at Rasputin the other day--at the in-store you missed--by the way, would you like to be on the Tin Cat mailing list?--about how, working two jobs, the in-stores he books are just about the only shows he can get to. And I've been thinking about how, with so many performances and rehearsals, pretty much the only bands I see are the ones we play shows with. It's not a bad problem to have, but I do miss Mulvey, Delmhorst, Hem, etc.

Too busy for LJ? Psh!
