Full house for Carissa's Wierd, and I can only say: RIGHT. ON. Watching them, I am repeatedly surprised and gratified that such a thing exists. They seem like a rare and unstable compound, quick to combust when exposed to open air. At one point the crowd got so quiet listening that when the song ended and we started clapping the band seemed surprised to discover we were still there.
I'm not surprised, although I'm pleased, that Iron & Wine exists. I am surprised they play rock clubs. These are straight-up folkies. They have a banjo. And not in that quirky look-we-have-a-banjo way that some bands have banjo. This band just has a banjo, for banjo songs. But don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see them wherever.
You know who I miss, a lot? Hum.
(Note to my west coast readers: CW are heading north and I&W are heading south.)
