the rule of law

Went to Borders at lunch today.

Kenneth Starr was there. He seemed nice.

I cased the joint for Christmas gifts, bought some magazines for myself, and went back to work.

Kenneth Starr probably doesn't get a lot of 'he seems nice.'

Well, you know. Here's this quasi-celebrity who's undoubtedly flown in from somewhere, driven through rain (he was late arriving at the store) to, seriously, the very heart of northern California suburbia, to sit at a little card table and sign books for a line of, consistently, three to five people who were interested enough to come out during their lunch hour and buy a copy of a book about the Supreme Court.

And he was taking an interest in people, being very polite, thanking them for their patience, personalizing dedications, everything you'd like an author to do.

It was nice.
