jfbI was all psyched to see M. Ward tonight. Like a year ago he was the first of the musicians I cover that I confessed to in person, and I eventually pointed him at the recording on my web site, and he dug it, which was really encouraging. But since then I've kept having other things scheduled, or forgetting to get tickets until they were already sold out, each time he comes to town. Until tonight.
So I was all psyched, see above, and then also Scott Andrew (did you guys check him out yet?) let it be known he'd be playing at the Rockin' Java open mike in San Francisco, which I've been to once and wasn't planning to go to again, but since I was going to be in SF anyway, and the open mike was early and the show was late, I figured I'd drop by and see Scott play.
But I came home, planned out my route, and went to double-check the calendar to make sure I could see Scott and still make it to the show in time... only to find there was a FIRE next door to the club last night, and they're closed until the inspectors come to check it out! NO M. WARD SHOW! AGAIN!
And I'm way too lazy to drive up to San Francisco and back to see a ten-minute set, even by someone who's really good. So, TV here I come! Sorry, Scott.
(I sure hope they're open in time for the Postal Service next week.)
