(no subject)

I have now been told, on separate occasions, by separate musicians:
  • "I like playing with you because you change the way I play my songs."
  • "I like playing with you because you don't change my songs--you figure out the feel and fit in."

Speaking of changing songs, you know I've got nothing against cover songs, but can someone tell me what Uncle Kracker's cover of "Drift Away" contributes? Are you kidding me? It's even got the same singer as the original.

yeah, i don't understand why he had to remake that, but even more, i don't understand why counting crows had to remake big yellow taxi.

having said that, i just learned about super diamond and i'm totally bummed that i missed them last week.

The Counting Crows cover just kind of makes me sad--it's so mechanical! It also makes me think of Janet Jackson's "Got Till It's Gone"--built around a sample from "Big Yellow Taxi"--which I really liked.

yes! every time i hear it, i think it's going to be janet jackson, and then i wind up being disappointed when it's the counting crows. not like it's a bad cover, but, just kind of unnecessary.
