I haven't heard Radiohead's new record, and, for reasons I haven't explored, have no immediate intent to hear it. But I mostly enjoyed reading Sasha Frere-Jones and Gerald Marzorati's back-and-forth in Slate about it. Here's the weirdest thing: I really enjoyed Frere-Jones's opener, thought he was more or less right about Radiohead's career so far and the critical reaction to it, and man, it really made me want to buy the new album. It wasn't until his second letter that I realized that he doesn't like it.

(As for the last day: A best-of without "Idioteque"? Crazy.)

wow, i really enjoyed that link, thank you for sharing it.

fwiw, i like the new Radiohead, but then, they'd have to make a significant departure down the weird noise path to put me off. boy doesn't like it, thinks it's more of the same. i haven't been able to give it a good solid couple of listens yet, though, so we'll see.

Glad you enjoyed it. I spent a couple of hours last night perusing Slate, and finished with the feeling that I should do so more often (but maybe at less length).

I'm looking forward to hearing the new album now, but I still plan on not doing it for a while. ("Pleasure delayer," whispers the part of my brain that recently watched Vanilla Sky.) On the other hand maybe I'll scrape up some CDs from the sell pile and head down to CD Warehouse this afternoon.
