time to see the doctor
Jun. 16th, 2003 11:57 amLast month, before the big trio show, my left index finger started hurting when I applied pressure in certain ways--like, playing the mandolin. (Much worse when I barred across multiple strings then when I fingered a single, well, double string.) Since I'm planning on spending the next few months playing a lot more mandolin, this was kind of worrisome. But I figured I would take it easy for a while, play less, and it would go away.
It's been a month now. I've been playing less--which is no good for my musical development--and it's gotten better, but it hasn't gone away. It's the kind of low-level pain that I hate to bother anyone with. But in two weeks, with the end of my job, I've got nothing on my schedule but making music, and at the same time my health insurance suddenly gets a lot more complicated.
I don't like visiting doctors. It's all psychological--it's about my issues with authority figures, and my difficulty coping with situations that I don't have a routine for. And I have a pretty good constitution. So usually when something's wrong, I just tough it out. But given the timing of this, I figured I'd better make a plan to see a medical professional while it's still pretty easy to do.
Anyway, so I'm going to see the doctor (a doctor I've never met before, which makes the psychology worse) this afternoon. Think good thoughts.
I've just noticed that there's a little bump under the skin of my left index finger, which I assume is bone, that isn't in the corresponding place on the right finger. That might be nothing, but it doesn't make me feel positive.
