[livejournal.com profile] tuliphead was wondering if she's the only one who doesn't care about the new Harry Potter book. I don't, but here are some people who care enough for all of us:
Of course, with two Pottermaniacs as devoted as we are, chances were good we would like "Phoenix," no matter what. How devoted are we? How many people actually quit their jobs so they will have more time to read it? (The guy at the unemployment office said, "I admire what you two are doing" — he didn't have to say that.) All summer, with nothing to do but read Book Five . . . who's laughing now, suckers? By suckers, we mean our parents, our wives, the mortgage company, and so forth.

In other book news, Douglas Coupland has a new one out. I lost the faith somewhere between Girlfriend in a Coma and Miss Wyoming, but I might give Hey Nostradamus! a try.

I hope this one's better than Miss Wyoming, which was a major disappointment.

Who would spend a whole summer reading HP V? It took me five hours: time well-spent, but if it had been more than twelve I would've started questioning it.

It took me about 8 hours. I don't get the whole summer comment either, unless they plan on reading it over and over and over again.

enh, why do people care about harry potter? that is, why do people over the age of 14 care? i still don't get it. no interest in reading those.

enh, why do people care about douglas coupland? that is, why do people not between the ages of 34 and 32 care? i still don't get it.

the way girlfriend in a coma's last half went, i have no desire to ever read anything of that guy's again. i liked microserfs, though.

Aww, it's a great story. Especially Phoenix, which is a delicious allegory for the current state of the union under the Bush-Blair incestuous regime (Umbridge = Ashcroft!).
