ongoing fixation on avril lavigne as pop phenomenon, #3893484 in a series

Joe says, "so while i was in minnesota for christmas i watched mtv and vh1 for the first time in months if not years"
Joe says, "i had forgotten how important they are in shaping popular opinion about music"
Joe says, "specifically: i was completely bewildered by the descriptions of avril lavigne as 'punk', since her music is *exactly*, to three digits of precision, *exactly* as punk as shania twain"
Joe says, "but now i see that in videos she skateboards and has bad makeup"
Joe says, "so now i get it"

Let us not forget Maya Price's brilliant condemnation of Avril's inclusion in Rolling Stone magazine's "Women In Rock" issue:

"Avril Lavigne gets some studded accessories from Hot Topic so now she's 'upholding the brazen tradition of teenage outrage?'"
