Rolling hills and oil drills.

Arizona
Power plant and giant rock.

New Mexico
Blue sky at twilight and the Sun and Sand Motel.

Texas
Giant cross and leaning water tower.

Oklahoma
Oklahoma City memorial: 9:01 and 9:03.

Kansas
Wichita river and Kansas City steeple.

Missouri
Giant shuttlecock, headless statues and Kenny.

Iowa
Department store and farmland.

Huh?

Nope, MN for the holidays. I expect to hit LA in February sometime and then settle in for a while.

Why is there a giant badmitton instrument in Missouri?

I can't answer that precisely, but I will say that the giant shuttlecocks (three of them, as far as I know) are on the grounds of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (http://www.nelson-atkins.org/). Maybe four.

The shuttlecocks were very controversial when they were first introduced. Apparently everyone doesn't have a sense of humor when it comes to art! There is also a companion to the four birdies in the Guggenheim museum. Too bad you didn't get to see the new exhibit of the moon and stars. It's quite interesting, but it was too cold. Maybe next time.

It certainly had the benefit of dramatic lighting. But every place is exciting, if you know how to look at it.

Kansas has a bayou? What the heck is up with Missouri? It's full of weird lawn art. Who knew? Texas, though -- we all knew. Even about the crooked stuff.

I like the road photos a lot.

The "bayou" photo was taken (on foot) from a bridge over a little river in Wichita, on my way to a cool cafe called Riverside Perk.

Both Missouri photos are from the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (see other reply for link), and the guy walking in front of the headless statues is Kenny.

On I-40 in Texas there are billboards advertising the LARGEST CROSS IN THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE, and that's what I photographed. Questions: Is it really the largest cross in the western hemisphere? And if so, what eastern hemisphere cross prevents it from claiming the world title?

(Thanks for giving me an excuse to provide notes!)
