Thanks to glenn mcdonald's hyperbolic review, today I am enjoying four streaming songs by eastmountainsouth and three MP3s by Haley Bonar.

After listening to the MP3 of "One and the Same" in the car and realizing I didn't like it, I spent a couple of days trying to make it better. I fixed up the most egregious mistakes; I did some small but significant remixing; and I recorded a whole new vocal track. I'm not sure the new vocal is better, but it has different flaws. I may just have to let this one go and try writing some songs I can sing. Anyway, if you're curious, the new version is on the web site.

I sure like The Others. Watching it for a third time (once in the theater, twice on DVD this week), I'm still noticing new details and resonances. But the main thing is Nicole Kidman's performance. The dark rooms and creaking doors and spooky music (by the director!) are all satisfyingly creepy, but really the whole movie is written on Kidman's face, the varying mixture of madness and fear as she tries to keep everything under control. Maybe I'll watch Moulin Rouge! next.
