Ben pointed out a Kuro5hin article for independent musicians about making it easy for people to download your music. The ideas are pretty good. I haven't spent much time worrying about dialup download speeds, but I guess I should put it on my to-do list.

Someone in the comments pointed out SoundClick, which seems like a pretty good mp3.com alternative.

I love downtown San Jose--I think I've mentioned. But most of the dining options are either expensive or bad, sometimes both. So I was happy this week to discover Lombok, a "fast-casual" restaurant--which means they're not above using wax paper Pepsi cups for dine-in customers, but you're a little surprised to see them. Their cuisine hails from several Southeast Asian countries, which is good just for the sake of variety, and also means they don't have to worry about patriot thugs if we go to war with Singapore or something.

They've clearly made an effort to be Westerner-friendly--perhaps a little too friendly. I can indulge the "Madam Curry" vegetables, but "Snow White and the Seven Greens Salad" is a bit much and I don't even know what "Mad About Siomay" is supposed to mean. But the food was good and the staff was friendly. It's a good place to know about if you're downtown.

Which is where I was for Gypsy Cinema, a series of free outdoor movie screenings projected on the wall of the San Jose Museum of Art. (Well, okay, on a screen in front of the wall.) It's a great idea, and I really enjoy the atmosphere, but... tonight I went to see O Brother, Where Art Thou?, a movie I remember in glorious (if digitally altered) film color. They showed it on DVD with a big projector, and the pixelization and especially the washed-out color were kind of depressing. But okay, it was still great.

When George Clooney tells Holly Hunter she can't marry the new fellow, her response is "I can, I am, and I will," which sounded familiar. Tomorrow The Philadelphia Story will arrive from Netflix. It was an accident (I've just seen it at a theater, and there's no point to watching it now on my little TV), but now I'll get to see if my hunch is correct.
