(no subject)

Videotapes go out today. How about some CDs? How about some CDs from the "S" section? Links to Allmusic album entry, or artist's web site.

The jazz section:

Folk?

  • Solas Solas. Celtic folk supergroup's debut. Very good.
  • Jennie Stearns Sing Desire. Folkish. Featuring and married to Rich Stearns of the Horseflies.
  • Claudia Schmidt Wings of Wonder. Formerly Minnesotan singer-songwriter. [livejournal.com profile] rutemple
  • Cory Sipper Orbiter. I think she opened for someone at the Freight and Salvage.
  • Sorci & Tomich Fly on the Wall. Now known as Red Letter. Saw them at Borders in Santa Cruz. Great voice.
  • Terri Stilwell One True Thing.
  • Stormy Heaven s/t. Sharon Bousquet's old band.

Sometimes I buy classical music.

  • Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg Humoresque. Based on the film of the same name.

Again, free if I kind of know you or you really want it. This offer is not limited to LiveJournal users; mail me if you'd rather not leave a comment here.

I should maybe mention that the fact that I'm giving a CD away doesn't mean I don't like it. Some of these are duplicates, or, well, this album is good, but I have a better one from the same band, so why would I ever listen to this one? A few of them are probably scratched--if you get one that doesn't play, I'll refund your money.

Because hey, free CDs! I'm interested in Stringfellow, Sing Sing, Stereolab (Aluminum Tunes, I think I have the other one), Shudder to Think, Saint Etienne, and Sparklehorse. I can PayPal you for postage or whatever.

Sparklehorse is going to a local friend, but the rest are yours. Don't worry about postage, we'll talk after I've done a few more rounds.

Oh that list. I just want to break it down and talk about it for days.

Squeeze: Do you know how hard it is to find their pre-1982 records on CD? I think impossible.

The Sheila Divine: Kind of the poor-man's Jimmy Eat World. Big in Boston. Broke up recently, though.

Semisonic: Where are they now? Seriously.

Saint Etienne: I'm not sure your reasons on giving this one up, but they've got a best-of out now that's really, really good. Truly, their greatest hits, all on one cd. For one low price, even.

Too bad I can't take advantage of your generosity here because I already own everything I'd be interested in. Which makes sense, no?

I'm pretty sure Saint Etienne was one of those that sounded promising in the store, but just never really grabbed me. I think I liked some other album of theirs better, but it was on loan from a friend.

The drummer from Semisonic wrote that book that people seemed to like last fall.

And this list? This list is only the beginning, my friend.

Sheila Divine

Sheila divine is that band from Boston that tari and doug and I saw and that I kinda got to know the drummer for and did a webpage for them. (I love archive.org)

FYI

Spiritualized! Please!

And if for some reason none of the faster repliers gets the Smiths CD, I'll take that.

[identity profile] jfb.livejournal.com 2005-02-08 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
I'm actually surprised how many people want the Smiths CD and don't already have it. The Spiritualized's yours, though.

I have a hunch the address I have for you isn't current--update me (mailto:eostrom@drowning.org).

David Sanchez, Wayne Shorter, and Lalo Schifrin.
And damn, too late to get the Jimmy Smith.

Got it. Anything from the "T"s?
