Today's one of those laugh-or-cry news days. I don't normally repeat a lot of links I got from my friends list, but it seems like a good time for a roundup.

OK, that New Jersey story is terrifying. Especially with the ease with which the country jumps back and forth between Yellow and Orange. Don't listen to your radio and leave your house? That's a shootin'.

"Red means all noncritical functions cease," Caspersen said. "Noncritical would be almost all businesses, except health-related."

Of course, since they'll shut down the radio stations, you won't know when it's safe to go back outside.

My business is safety-related, maybe that means I'll be able to go to work.

I'm reminded of the joke: "The terrorists could never take away our freedom. Only Bush/Ashcroft/New Jersey can do that."

what's a good word to describe something that makes you want to laugh and cry simultaneously?

As a follow-up, Volokh Conspiracy has a report from someone who claims to have attended the Scalia award speech.
