New song on the web site, "No Time to Lose." It's got those fake drums I was talking about the other night, and between that and the electric mandolin, sounds more like a rock song than most of mine do. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I'm not that happy with the mix on this one, but I think I've heard it too much to do any more fixing right now. There might be another revision in the next couple of weeks, but for now I have to move on to something else.

Cool song. Something about the rhythm and chord progression reminds me of The Lilys' "Ginger", which in turn has always reminded me of The English Beat's "Save It For Later". Unfortunately I don't have a copy of either song, but I'm sure you can track them down if you want.

Don't know the Lilys, but yeah, now that you mention it, the verse chords on my song pretty much fit the chorus of "Save It For Later". There just aren't that many chord progressions to go around.

What I actually thought I was ripping off when I wrote it was "Blue Sky," from Patty Griffin's rock album. You can still hear pieces of her verse in my chorus, and vice versa.

You'd probably like the Lilys. The main lyrical hook in "Ginger" is
"She comes and she goes, but she mostly goes" which is some sort of
genius in my book. I have their first album (1992) and their most recent album (2003) on my secret ftp server if you're interested (ping me if you don't still have the password).

Who's Patty Griffin?

Generally well-respected folk singer. Several interesting stories about her major-label product (short version: she's made five records and released three).

I have three addresses for your secret FTP server--two of them are host-not-found, and the other one is a redirect to the first one. Maybe you'd better mail me the URL again.

I'm a big fan of... that one album... Sebastopol (sorry, it's late). I like the Son Volt record I have but I haven't even heard Wide Swing Tremolo. Is it good?

whoops, thought i wrote back on this. WST is ok, it sounds like a band who is out of ideas, its like a precursor to sebastopol, which i did not care for at all.

sonvolt's first two records, especially the debut, trace, are more stripped down and better, i think.

i used to love his stuff, but it got kind of old after a while. especially in light of what wilco's been doing.

You rock.

If I was 13, and female, I'd want your poster on my bedroom wall.

Once I get over contemplating you 13 and female I'll get right to work on the poster.

I agree with the drums being a little out of place because of their electronica feel, but if you you got organic drums I think it woudl be great! Once you do that you can remix it and see what happens at least.

Dave says more drums please. He really really really likes it. A lot. But he likes more drums.

Tell Dave there's three whole tracks' worth of fake drums already. My fake arms are tired.
