Note: Broiled polenta wedges with portabella mushroom strips and capers are not nearly as good after being refrigerated and then microwaved.

And yet still not bad. The borscht is still not quite made; I chilled it, but haven't added the buttermilk. Cooking is fun. It's too bad it takes time.

Hey, [livejournal.com profile] greyaenigma, I hope those Jonathan Lethem books won't be over your head now that he's a genius.

I anticipate no change in over-my-head status. This may help me get some votes for his book in the book club, though.

Which book are you pushing for?

I haven't decided. It's the classic conundrum of the book club -- push a book you've read, and duplicate effort by re-reading, or push something you hope to read, and discover it for the first time.

That being said, our next book to read is actually Good Omems, which I've read before, but since it was over 15 years ago, I don't feel like i'm wasting effort.

(And yes, I know, why do I have all these books if I'm not planning on re-reading them? Well, I hope to, just as soon as... well, I find the time.)

We did Motherless Brooklyn in the group I was in. It was a pretty good discussion, although parts of it made me uncomfortable.

I don't know if it's still true, but at one point I decided my favorite Lethem book was Amnesia Moon. OTOH Girl in Landscape might be a better book club book.

Hope this helps!

It might, thanks!

Now I'm trying to remember which book he said in the interview I heard was his best novel in terms of structure (or something like that).

No rush, anyway, the next two books out have been chosen, and since they were both my selections, I'm not going to push very hard to get my selection voted on next month. (Although... that's the tactic I took last month that got Good Omens selected.)

Oh really?

so it is. It's a link to a story about the closing of the bookstore he was supposed to be talking at tonight on the book tour.

In other news, the Good Omens author tour continues, and Neil Gaiman will be at my office next week ..

By the way, BORSCHT makes a pretty good (but not winning) Hangman word.
I just used it last week.
